Google said on Monday, February 2021 that it would lift its restriction on political ads on its stage imposed a month ago and Google proclamation to AFP said that Google will lift the ban on its sensitive events from February 2021.
In an email, Google said the decision was taken “after following the events of the February 2021 Google stated that at the time it was stopping all political notices alongside advertisements related to arrangements, President-elect Joe Biden's protest and inauguration in Washington, since they could be utilized "to misuse the occasion or mislead information’s”. The move made no special cases for merchandisers running ads or news associations. On December 10 2020, Google removed bans on promotions related to political decisions, which came into effect after the surveys stopped in the November 2020 US official political election. Facebook also stopped political advertisements just after the November 3, 2020 political election, on the notices and advertisements around the US Senate political elections in Georgia on January 2021. A representative from Google stated that the organization has been using a restricted form of its "Sensitive Event" strategy from the January 6, 2021 which implied it didn't permit notices referring to the political issues at the Capitol.
Google and Facebook were aggregately answerable for billions of dollars’ worth of computerized political ads during the last political race cycle. The online fund raising efforts have been scrambled due to the bans of Google and Facebook. The have also removed a key tool between the voters and campaigns in Virginia and New Jersey this year. As per the report of Politico, Facebook also imposed some restrictions on political promotions but has not yet confirmed when it will be removed. The tech giant has imposed ban on the Georgia Senate races in January 2021, however the ban was restored.
